common FAQs
We all have some cocerns or querries about our feline friends time and again. Lets get the answers to some FAQs.
A cats nose is wet mostly because cats and dogs as well, have moisture or sweat on thier noses that helps them smell things better. It also helps them regulate thier body tempeature, as they dont sweat all over. It helps them stay cool even in the dry summer season. A healthy cat will almost always have a wet nose
A cat can have a dry nose for a number of reasons mostly it could mean that the cat is not licking her nose often enough while grooming herself, or that she is not producing enough mucus or is spending to much time outdoors. It could also mean that the cat is dehydrated in which case the cat will show other signs of illness as well like lethargy and loss of appettite.
Cats arent very fond of water and mostly are very arid drinkers which is one of the main reasons for them to get dehydrated. So they should always be encouraged to drink more, as water is extremely essential for their well bieng just as its for us! One way to do this is to make sure there is fresh clean water always available. Also you should understand your cats preferences some cats like to drink in a bowl while others prefer it flowing directly from a tap or cat fountain. But remember to encourage and not force feed unless adviced by the vet.
Cats can sleep anywhere between 8-16 hours. Sometimes cats can sleep for as less as 7-8 hours while at other times they can sleep for as much as 20 hours in a span of 24 hours! The amount a cat sleeps depends on a number of things like boredom, weather conditions, level of activity, but mostly how long a cat will sleep depends on thier personality as well…some cats are highly energetic and will sleep lesser in comparison to more domesticated cats that prefer to spend most of thier time enjoying thier beauty sleep.
Generally you might see younger cats spend lesser time sleeping than more mature and aged cats. as the younger ones are mostly moree energetic and spontaneous.
NOTE: cats are nocturnal bings hence are more active during night and prefer sleeping during the day.
Cats use thier claws for a number of things whether its to hold something, to climb trees or to even evade an attack from a predator given all these reasons cats have a tendency to keep thier claws sharp by scratching anything interesting enough. This natural tendency can be discouraged by spraying the furniture with smells that cats dont like such as citrus fruits or apple cider vinegar or even some airfreshners.
another effective is to buy a scratching post. there are many different types available one recommendation is the Hoopet cat Tree Tower, cat Scratching Post for Indoor Cat . it is perfect for cats of all ages.
Given the fact that cats in general are very clean creatures and are known for thier grooming habits. It is said that a cat spends almost 1/3 of its life grooming and cleaning itself. So to say they don’t require baths on regular basis. you can go with bathing them almost once every three weeks or so in winter.
One should avoid bathing/showering them too often durirg the winter months as it can lead to them catchig a nasty cold since they are more prone to avoiding the cold weather than most other animals.
However there are instances when it becomes necessary to do so, this also depends on your cats activities if shes more outdoors and playing in the mud/been rolling around in stuff she should’nt have! or got her coat matted with something she cant get off! In which condition a shower is more preferable than baths as its less frustratig and quicker since they are not fond of water one way or another.
A number of things can be stopping your cat from using the litter box the most common being: The litter box is not being cleaned regularly. Cats in general, are very clean creatures and do not like to use a filthy litter box. Or multiple cats using the same litter. It is always adisable to keep a separate litter box for each cat in a multiple cat household as cats don’t like to share their private moments with anyone, and think that litter is the its territory sinces cats mark thier territory with urine.
Cats by nature are very territorial and think that every nook and corner of where they stay belongs to them. Hence a closed door means they are being denied their right to know exactly whats behind that door. Another reason for your cat to meow outside your door is simply because she misses you and wants to spend time with you. nothing that a pleasent cuddle or few treats can’t fix.
Some cats like children have a fear of getting lost or being hurt. This is especially true for indoor cats who might have lived in an apartment for most of thier whole lives, or live with a single person. In some cases a bad experience like an encounter with the local neighbourhood dog can also instill fear in them. Hence fear of the unknown develops in them.

Cats by nature are Carnivore and cannot be vegetarians no matter the circumstances. However that does not mean that they cant enjoy a little vegetables or fruits from time to time.
some of the vegetables safe for cats to consume include:
- carrots
- pumpkins
- zucchinni
- green beans and
- broccoli
One thing to always keep in mind is that vegetables/fruits etc should only be given occasionally and in moderation. as they can have severe health issues otherwise.
