Black and White Kitten Inside A Brown Wooden Box

Best kittens Nutrition week by week from birth to adulthood.

There is nothing cuter than seeing a kitten playing with a ball of yarn. Or the fun of seeing two kittens fight over a squishy ball. So now you have an adorable ball of fur, two or maybe even more…..the question arises what now? being a dedicated cat lover who has personally hand raised at least 3 litters of kittens I can tell you taking care of kittens can be hard work that if done right can feel extremely rewarding…

Kittens are pretty much similar to human babies as they are completely dependent on their mothers or primal care givers for everything. On this page we will see the different stages of kittens and how to provide them with the best possible nutrition and care.

.

new born kittens need constant care, love and support.

From Birth to 2 Weeks

kittens need special care from the moment they are born as they cant see or hear at all Kittens need special care from the moment they are born as they can’t see or hear at all, their main sense that guides them is the sense of smell with which they can move about up to a few inches only. Also kittens need to be kept warm as their body temperature is not regulated. When it comes to nutrition the only thing a new born kitten requires is its mother’s milk or in its absence a cat milk replacement.

facts to know: cats milk is somewhat similar to cows/goats milk which is why people usually give it to them, however though this might work for adult cats, a kittens system is somewhat sensitive and unable to digest cows/goats milk.

nursing your kittens…

Now that you have the formula milk well prepared and ready to be fed, the  question arises as to how? For that you could very simply use Pet Cat Dog Silicone Feeding Bottle for Puppy/Kitten Feeder Nipple Tool.

Make sure the kitten latches on well to the bottle.

DON’T make the formula too hot or you might burn her tongue.

ALWAYS remember to be patient and as gentle as possible for a hungry kitten can get very demanding and impatient.

2-4 Weeks…

A lot has happened in these past two weeks. Your kitty has opened her eyes that appear blue at this stage for her vision is still blurry. She has started to respond to loud sound as she has started to hear as well. Little by little her paws are gaining balance and she is starting to explore her close surroundings…

FACTS TO KNOW:: kittens do not urinate or excrete in the first few weeks of their life unless stimulated by the mother which she does by licking…although not very necessary  you can however gently massage her tummy with your index finger to help her with her digestion…

DOS &DONTS:

Do make sure you make the milk according to the instructions mentioned on

Don’t make and store milk for long periods of time.

Do make sure you give the kitten the same warm comfy feel provided by a mother while feeding.

Do Make sure to keep the kittens warm and and snuggly to make sure it feels safe.

4-Weeks…

By the fourth week most kittens are ready to be weaned but make sure not to haste to fast…take it slow a little bit at a time make sure to introduce the wet cat food specially formulated for kittens mixed with a little water or formula milk.

Begin with no more than one to two spoonful’s at a time and see how the kitten reacts to it. Remember not all kittens develop exactly the same, some might be ready to wean by 4 weeks while some might be late bloomers…

My recommendation is Purina Pro Plan High Protein Wet kitten food. Purina is a well known and world wide trusted brand that not just provides high quality nutrition for kittens, but also has a delectable variety of flavours that never bores kittens and cats alike it

MAKE SURE TO VISIT YOUR LOCAL VETRINARY CLINIC REGULARLY TO MAKE SURE YOUR KITTY IS HEALTHY AND GETTING HER VACCINATIONS ON TIME.

6-9 weeks:

Your kitten has reached a milestone these past few weeks….she is playing all most all the time whether its her jumping in the air to catch a fly or trying to climb a curtain.. she is training like a pro with her gymnastics.

This period is ideally known as the “socialising period” as your kittens personality traits will be developing in these few weeks…experts agree that the more the kitten socialises with people the friendlier she will be as an adult cat. All this activity can leave any lil kitty famished…though she enjoys her wet food this is an ideal time to add in dry food as well. My suggestions would be Purina Kitten Chow Dry Kitten Food…its soft small sized pieces are just right for her to digest along with the added protein it provides for her growing muscles.

Make sure to mix it with a little bit of water or wet food the first few times till she adjusts to hard solids.

So make sure to provide her with the ideal compassionate household she deserves!
